The America’s Cup w
ill commence next week and Valencia is already in a state of high excitement. After the courtroom dramas of the past year, only the most pessimistic sailing fan would anticipate anything less than a good old-fashioned ding-dong battle when Switzerland’s Team Alinghi finally faces off against America’s BMW Oracle.
The programme starts on Sunday 7th February with an opening event guaranteed to attract huge crowds to Valencia’s gorgeous, state-of-the-art marina. The festive spirit will be replaced by something far more businesslike on Monday when the teams gather for the first day of racing. The second day is scheduled for Wednesday and, should a deciding bout be necessary, the final contest will take place on Friday 12th. All the competitions are scheduled to take place from 10 a.m., although the weather and sea conditions are bound to dictate the course of the contest.
The organisers have set aside the 14th to the 25th of February in case the weather conditions necessitate the postponement of the programme.
The America’s Cup website is available in three languages and enables visitors to view a full list of events, sign up for the latest news of this year’s competition, follow the races live and keep an eye on proceedings via eight strategically placed webcams.
Even if you can’t get to Valencia, there’s no need to miss out on the America’s Cup experience!
