What our friends and clients are saying…
This morning I woke up with interesting news on television about the “small black dress” named “breakfast dress”, designed by Givenchy, a favourite of film star Audrey Hepburn, which she was wearing in the already classic film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”, a feature that had turned Hepburn even more famous.
Apart from famous, this simple but also elegant dress was the envy of all girls in the sixties. They all tried to wear copies or similar dresses to feel more beautiful and attractive, the dress becoming an icon for parties during those years.
An anonymous buyer, who prefers staying under that description, has paid the incredible amount of USD 700,000 in the already second auction of the dress at Christie’s. This person must either be a great Hepburn’s follower or an admirer of the designer: Givenchy. I can’t recall such an amount being paid in any auction for a single dress, not even the much spoken and dreamt about dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in 1954 in the movie “The Seven Year Itch”, produced by Billy Wilder. That dress discovered her beautiful legs and already famous figure when Marilyn stood on the street over a strong Manhattan underground air flow. Many people were supposed to go to the cinemas just to see that scene. Some of them several times.
A higher amount was only paid for the “second skin” dress worn by Marilyn Monroe when singing her famous song “Happy Birthday Mr. President”, reaching an astounding amount of 1.3 Million dollars, unique in the world for so little clothing.
