Las Naves is a cultural centre created by the Valencian council to give the young artists of the area a space in which they can express themselves. It was decided that because Valencia is a modern and cosmopolitan city the council should be supporting creativity amongst the youth, and so Las Naves was born.

If a picture is said to be worth a thousand words then this exhibition could probably write its own dictionary with its extensive collection. In this, the first of three scheduled exhibitions, the aim is to depict the development of Spain from the 19th century, through the times of famous Spanish painter Sorolla and up to the beginning of the 20th century, through a selection of 345 photos. These are spread over the two venues in Valencia city and Alicante, with the majority to be found in Valencia. Impressively, around 200 of these photos have not been edited and are shown in their original quality subtly depicting the heritage of Spain and its architecture as well as its culture.

When news emerged that Ridley Scott was in pre-production mode prior to shooting a new movie, all fans of the sci-fi/horror genre were thrilled, since they had already guessed that what the taciturn director had in mind was an addition to the Alien saga. Scott’s forthcoming project, Prometheus, will actually be a prequel to his groundbreaking film and – in a press release that will delight residents of the Costa Blanca – will be primarily shot in Alicante’s City of Lights studio. Scott has booked the water tank at the studio until December, so whatever surprises the screenplay (wriiten by Lost writer, Damon Lindelof) contains, it’s certain that the cast, headed by Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Patrick Wilson and Guy Pearce, will need to pack their water-wings!

A visitor, enjoying a swim on his holiday in Denia, was probably not expecting to be responsible for an important archaeological discovery, but when he stumbled upon the remains of two ancient Roman containers, this is exactly what happened.
The amphorae, which date back to the second century AD and, according to preliminary investigations, probably produced in a ceramic workshop near the Guadalquivir River, a couple of millennia later, were discovered by the lucky bather on the beach at Les Marines, Costa Blanca. These terracotta containers of the classical era were most likely used to carry oil, one of the staple products of the Romans in Spain and essential for the wellbeing of an empire that stretched right across Europe.
