Alonso sees red

FerrariExpect Ferrari mania in Spain as news comes through confirming Fernando Alonso’s move to the famous scuderia rossa. Yes, the Spanish Formula One star will be racing in red next season, joining the affable Brazilian Felipe Massa who is expected to have fully recovered from his frightening accident by then.

Alonso replaces 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen, whose form has been somewhat inconsistent in recent times and who is likely to take his compatriot’s spot at McLaren Mercedes next year. Alonso sees red

Topsy-turvy season showdown in Valencia

Formula 1 dramaUPDATE: Michael Schumacher will not, after all, be getting back into a Ferrari this season.

Whether you’re an avid fan or not, this year’s Formula One season has really been eye-catching. In a sport dominated by big guns Ferrari and McLaren this season has seen all prior certainties go up in smoke. In fact, no sooner had we got used to a brand new hierarchy consisting of Brawn Mercedes and Red Bull Renault than the sport was turned upside down again by the awful accident that saw Ferrari’s Felipe Massa out for the season – and perhaps for good.

Grand Prix comes to Valencia

Valencia Formula 1 Grand PrixThis summer the heady, exciting and above all glamorous world of Formula One racing comes to Valencia. While the city does have a racing circuit, the 2009 ‘European GP’ will be held in the streets of this vibrant Spanish city. Other than the classic Monte Carlo GP this is the only street Grand Prix in Europe, and one of just three overall. It could be a sign of things to come in F1, for if F1 bigwig Bernie Ecclestone would have his way, the British and French GPs would also see Ferraris, McLarens, Renaults and Brawns tearing past the famous landmarks of London and Paris respectively.
