In a ceremony held on Friday 21st October in Oviedo, the Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen accepted his Prince of Asturias Award for Letters.
Cohen – an accomplished poet and novelist, although best known for his melancholic yet humorous songs – used his acceptance speech as a platform from which to praise Spain’s extraordinarily rich cultural life.

As residents will no doubt agree, there is always something interesting happening in Javea. With so many chances throughout the year to enjoy all the usual outdoor activities like sailing and hiking in the beautiful surroundings of the Montgó National Park, there need never be a dull moment.
However, during the shorter days of November many Javea citizens prefer to turn their thoughts to indoor pursuits. Fortunately there is more than enough to occupy all members of the family this month.

Have you ever gone out for lunch, eaten far too much paella and drunk far too much Rioja? If, like many enjoying the Spanish lifestyle, you plead guilty to these charges you will also know that the internationally famous Spanish siesta is a necessity rather than a self-indulgent luxury.
Unfortunately, as many will attest, too much sleep can wreak as much havoc to one’s productivity and feeling of well-being as too much food and alcohol. While doubtless irritating to employers, those in charge of nothing more taxing than a computer are limited in how much damage they can cause in their semi-comatose state.

It’s all happening in Jávea this month! Whether you enjoy culture and history or would prefer to be out and about, there will be something to suit you in Jávea and its environs.
El Seté Segell Cinema Club will be screening five very different films: Silencio de Amor, La Boda de Mi Mejor Amiga, Cena de Amigos, El Hombre de al Lado and Gianni y Sus Mujeres, all of which will attract a very different audience. While La Boda de Mi Mejor Amiga (My Best Friend’s Wedding) is a typically frothy Hollywood concoction, the other four films demonstrate the best of French, Argentinean and Italian contemporary film.
