David Ferrer gives Javéa an extra Christmas present

Davis Cup winner David FerrerAfter his part in Spain’s recent Davis Cup victory, David Ferrer is looking for a relaxing Christmas in his hometown of Javéa. Ferrer’s victory over Juan Martín del Potro in the final is widely believed to be one of the defining points of the championship and left his compatriot, Rafael Nadal, in an excellent position to seal the title.

Everyone who knows anything about David Ferrer knows that there are few things that he loves more than returning to Javéa during his rare periods of rest. However, the scale of his successes in 2011 has resulted in the whole town uniting to welcome him home for Christmas.

Jávea gets ready for Christmas

Santa fun runSaturday 17th of December marks the date on which the festive season gets off to a flying start in Jávea as participants gather for the annual Christmas fun run around the old town.

Anyone who wishes to be part of this event should gather at the Placeta del Convento at 10am to register. There will be plenty to entertain the youngest entrants, including music, a face-painting workshop and other surprises.

Spain wins the Davis Cup – again!

Xabia Trail Association adds to Camino de Santiago routes

Photo: Asociación Xabia CaminoJavea’s Trail Association (Asociación Xabia Camino) is dedicated to promoting the area’s rich cultural, natural and historical heritage, so the news that it has extended the Camino del Alba route will be welcomed by fans of the Camino de Santiago – a series of pilgrim routes that cross Spain en route to the city of Santiago de Compostela. The new camino was inaugurated in an appropriate manner, with members of the Trail Association setting off on an enjoyable and memorable 30-kilometre hike between Ontinyent and Aforins de Fontanars. This reminder of the beauty of the landscape will spur them on to prepare the next stage of the journey to Santiago, the historic old town that celebrates Spain’s patron saint, St. James.

The cure for anything is salt water – sweat, tears, or the sea ~Isak Dinesen

Kitesurfing on the spanish coastIf this is true then kitesurfing may be exactly the way to go. Also known as kiteboarding, this is an extreme sport that is gaining popularity across the globe.

If you’re curious to hear a bit more about kitesurfing, look no further, but beware – I don’t claim to be an expert!  This sport has been described as a combination of wakeboarding, windsurfing, surfing, paragliding and gymnastics, which is a lot to pack into one sport!  The surfer uses a board, with no foot-straps or binding, attached to a kite to propel themselves across the water.  Any large open body of water with good steady winds of about 10 to 35+ knots is suitable for kitesurfing.  It usually takes place off the beach but can be enjoyed on lakes and other bodies of water, as long as they are big enough.  As the sport relies on the right weather conditions, certain locations tend to become kitesurfing “hot-spots”.
