t was a proud day for Barcelona when one of its own buildings was named World Building of the Year at the World Architecture Festival Awards (WAF), which were held in the city recently.
Constructed in the shape of a cube, the Media-TIC building provides space for companies, research and training facilities, and was selected from a final shortlist of 16 imaginative and innovative designs.

In a ceremony held on Friday 21st October in Oviedo, the Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen accepted his Prince of Asturias Award for Letters.
Cohen – an accomplished poet and novelist, although best known for his melancholic yet humorous songs – used his acceptance speech as a platform from which to praise Spain’s extraordinarily rich cultural life.

Researchers at Spain’s Superior Scientific Research Council (CSIC) have just completed the first phase of human clinical trials of an HIV vaccine, which looks set to revolutionise the medical world.
Over the past decade or so, the situation of AIDS sufferers has been significantly improved with the development and employment of antiretroviral drugs which, taken regularly, can effectively combat the damage done to the immune system by the HIV virus.
