Almost all areas of Spain rely heavily on tourism, the huge numbers of visitors arriving largely from Northern Europe to enjoy the climate, the beaches and the relaxed lifestyle.

Now, with the growing popularity of long haul holiday destinations like Mexico, Brazil and the USA, a new Spanish tourist initiative has been announced. In a groundbreaking agreement the PSOE (Partido Socialista Obrero España) and the PP (Partido Popular) will join forces to ensure Spain’s future as Europe’s leading tourist destination.
It has been agreed that the Costa Blanca will be a particular focus, with a pact between the national body, Turespaña, the Costa Blanca Tourism Board and the Valencia Tourism Agency. This alliance will result in a year-long campaign that will start immediately and target the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands and Russia.
This campaign will result in the Costa Blanca being promoted on buses, trains, in cinemas and on billboards in key public areas.
Antoni Bernabé of Turespaña was quoted as saying that he would be willing to invest two million euros to help the Costa Blanca promotion campaign on the understanding that the provincial government commits the same amount of money and the regional tourism board a further one million.
José JoaquÃn Ripoll, President of the Alicante provincial government, stressed the vital importance of continuing to appeal to British tourists in particular, as they have most consistently proved their dedication to holidaying on the Costa Blanca. Year after year, it is the British holidaymakers who have contributed most to the area’s economy.
Despite the challenges of the current economic climate, it is hoped that this advertising programme will encourage British holidaymakers to continue to visit the Costa Blanca.
