With The Expendables still doing excellent business at the box office, movie critics are predicting an upswing of interest in the action heroes of the 1980s. Older audiences are being offered a chance to reacquaint themselves with some of that era’s macho stars, while youngsters are enjoying their introduction to the appeal of Stallone, Lundgren, Rourke, Schwarzenegger and Willis.
It looks as though Hollywood is still keen to employ the skills – and box office potential – of these charismatic actors; recent news named Bruce Willis one of the stars of The Cold Light of Day, an action drama which details the experiences of a young man who is obliged to spring into action when his parents are kidnapped while on holiday in Spain. Also featuring Alien star Sigourney Weaver and Henry Cavill, star of the BBC’s historical drama, The Tudors, The Cold Light of Day will be filmed partly on Javea’s Granadella beach.
Shooting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday September 7th and the beach and its immediate area will be closed to the public, which probably won’t deter the most star-struck local residents from hanging around the beach in the hope of catching a glimpse of a Hollywood star or two.
It is thought that the scenes to be filmed on Granadella beach will include several action and chase sequences, some of which will involve stunts in the sea.
The American production company, Summit Entertainment, is teaming up with a valenciano company, Galavis Film, which will also mean a financial windfall for a local business. With the arrival of a major movie and its concomitant team of production assistants and technical crews, this is also excellent news for local bars, cafes, restaurants and shops. It has furthermore been announced that any business close to or on the beach that is required to shut during the period of filming will be compensated, so it looks like a win-win situation for the area.
