From Wednesday August 4th until Saturday 7th Jávea will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its increasingly influential jazz festival. Under the leadership of its director, Kiko Berenguer, this year’s jazz extravaganza promises to be the best so far.
Jorge Pardo will open proceedings with his unique take on the genre, combining jazz and flamenco influences, while Thursday’s event will feature the Tingvall Trio, a group of young musicians who are also inspired by other musical types, including pop. Berenguer promises that this concert in particular will have plenty to entertain all ages, from true jazz aficionados to those not accustomed to the different tonal structures and rhythms of this revolutionary musical form.
On Friday Voro Garcia will perform, and the audience can expect to hear some of the best tracks from his latest CD, Vorocity, while Saturday is devoted to a tribute to one of the great ladies of jazz, Billie Holliday. Laika Fati, who has quickly won a reputation as one of the most recognisable voices of modern jazz, will perform some of Holliday’s most famous songs, reminding jazz fans of this remarkable talent while allowing her remarkable voice to lend them a new edge.
For many people jazz means Dixieland and if this is your favourite form of the genre you won’t be disappointed; the Xábiajazz Dixieland Band, formed specifically for this much loved event, will be very much in evidence. Kiko Berenguer plans to use the band to entertain the audience as they wait to enter the venues and tempt potential customers to buy a ticket if they are still undecided.
August is always a glorious month to visit Jávea and this is just one more reason to enjoy the best of the summer atmosphere.
