If you’re one of the many people whose ideal summer includes spending days on the beach then you should head for Jávea as soon as possible, since the town includes an astonishing 25 kilometres of wonderful beaches.
Your only problem will be to choose just one out of the many opportunities on offer. The key is to identify your idea of a truly wonderful day out and find the beach that most clearly fits the bill.
Arenal is the perfect place for a day out with the family; this horseshoe-shaped beach comes alive during the summer months, with volleyball nets, climbing frames, water rafts, pedaloes and play centres for the younger members of the family. A further bonus is the calm sea, which laps onto the gently sloping beach and allows the smallest family members plenty of space to paddle before it becomes sufficiently deep to permit swimming. Lifeguards patrol the beach and First Aid volunteer teams are on hand in case any mishap does occur.
If you would prefer your days to be a little more action packed you will have no difficulty in finding a wide spread of watersports to enjoy. Even a small amount of local knowledge will send you to the Montañar beach, a strip of coast that makes up for in activities what it lacks in sand. If you are thinking of enjoying a day of watersports while your companions drink in the sun, make sure that they bring their own sunbeds; the Montañar consists of sandstone.
Privacy is a key issue with many and you can let your Greta Garbo, “I want to be alone” tendencies run wild on Targo Beach. This small cove, located at the marina end of the port, is a pebble beach but does have the distinct advantage of being a wonderfully peaceful place that is ideal for unwinding away from the friendly, but bustling, ambience of Arenal.
For many, an all-over tan means just that so don’t forget that Jávea has its own naturist area. Ambolo Beach is a beautiful natural cove that offers maximum privacy for nude bathers and sun-worshippers.
You can also enjoy this magnificent coastline from the sea; Jávea’s Club Nautico is the home of Jávea Sailing School and Sailing Club, while keen divers will be interested to hear that the Jávea Sub-Aqua Club has facilities to allow beginners and experienced scuba divers to view life beneath the waves.
Most of Jávea’s beaches have gained European Union Blue Flag status and you can check the status of your chosen beach by following this link.
