Valencia’s importance as an international destination was confirmed in June when Delta Air Lines inaugurated direct flights from Valencia to New York’s JFK Airport.
This brand new service has been instituted to cope with increasingly heavy demand from North American tourists who wish to travel to Valencia. Figures have revealed that, during the last few years, Valencia has experienced an enormous growth in popularity among American tourists, appearing fifth in a league table of European cities.
This extraordinary new initiative represents a major victory for Turismo Valencia, which has become a regular presence in the USA, raising the city’s profile with tour operators and the general public. This sterling effort has produced a result that will undoubtedly raise Valencia’s profile still further.
Using Delta’s Boeing 757-200 ETOPS aircraft, the airline offers passengers an option of either Economy or their award-winning Business Elite class. Flights will depart from JFK to Valencia on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, while flights from Valencia to JFK will depart on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Naturally the Spanish Tourist Board is hailing this new service as a victory for both Spanish tourism and the convenience of Valencianos. Javier Piñanes, Director of Turespaña’s New York office said, “Valencia is becoming one of Spain’s most popular destinations for Americans. With Delta’s new service, they will now be able to travel there faster and more conveniently”.
