Jávea’s Espai d’Art is currently featuring the unique perspective of Swiss sculptor, Lukas Ulmi.
This imaginative artist specialises in creating sculptures with a difference; his pieces tend not to be solid shapes crafted from some heavy substance, such as bronze or marble, but are wonderfully striking and witty objects that move and change.
Imagine a giant executive toy as imagined by the great Joan Miró and you will have an approximate idea of the nature of Ulmi’s output.
A cube contains an ever-running fountain of the kind that might be viewed at a Shinto temple as a semi-circle rocks on its stand in the manner of a Newton’s Cradle.
Ulmi clearly retains a benevolent view of the universe, his creations mirroring the more playful aspect of human nature as evinced primarily by the Surrealists.
Jávea is not a large town, yet it contains a wealth of culture. Its Espai d’Art can be found at Calle Mayor 9-11 where Lukas Ulmi’s challenging, clever, yet always entertaining sculptures can be viewed until August 12th.
