After all the excitement of this year’s America’s Cup, the next event to capture the imagination of the worldwide boating community will be the Newport International Boat Show in mid-September.
This annual event offers exhibitors an opportunity to showcase their products and services to an audience of the world’s most avid and experienced sailors. As usual a range of waterfront facilities, stretching along America’s Cup Avenue, will host this unmissable event, incorporating Newport Yachting Center, Oldport Marine, Bannister’s Wharf, Bowen’s Wharf and Newport Harbor Hotel.
Apart from the presence of hundreds of international specialist companies, the show will feature master-classes by marine weather expert Lee Chesneau, CPR and First Aid Certification Clinics – and some spectacular parties. Traditionally the Newport International Boat Show also bestows its own awards, meaning that this year outstanding companies will be in line to receive the coveted Five Star Award. Several categories offer outstanding exhibitors the chance to win credit towards the exhibition costs at 2011’s show.
Rhode Island has a proud maritime tradition, so locals are pleased to welcome visitors to the Newport International Boat Show, particularly in the knowledge that some of the money raised during the event is donated to a non-profit organisation that promotes sailing to a new generation. In the past the International Yacht Restoration School has been the beneficiary of the NIBS. A fully accredited educational establishment, the International Yacht Restoration School trains the next wave of marine trades professionals and leaders.
