Are you serious about golf?
If your addiction to the game means that you’d be prepared to travel approximately 850 miles to complete a round, a task that could take seven days to play even with the assistance of a reliable vehicle, then the Nullarbor Golf Links is the course for you.
Located in South Australia, this astonishing course is not for the faint-hearted. Apart from the extreme distances involved, the rough surfaces and artificial greens will challenge players more accustomed to the manicured perfection of European courses. Those who have played the course advise patience, tenacity – and an old set of clubs.
Frequently 100km or more lies between one hole and the next; the Nullarbor course is so vast it is spread over two Australian states, South Australia and Western Australia. Depending on the direction of your ‘round’ you can tee off in the east or the west. The westernmost point of the course is the former gold mining town of Kalgoorlie, while in the east is the coastal town of Ceduna.
A scorecard will set you back 50$AUS, but this seems a small price to pay for a potential week of golf! On presenting your scorecard at either Kalgoorlie or Ceduna you will be presented with a certificate stating, “You have played the World’s Longest golf course” but you must have your card stamped at every hole.
Truck drivers have already heralded the Nullarbor Golf Links as the perfect antidote to road fatigue. The highway along which the course has been designed has been dubbed the most boring in the world, so make sure that you remember to pack your golf clubs if you’re planning a trip to Australia.
