Tee time for top golf properties

One of Spain’s many advantages is its warm climate, so it is the ideal environment for keen golfers. Fanatics will be pleased to learn that it’s not short of courses, either.

However, to appreciate the full benefit of playing golf in Spain it’s wise to choose your local golf club with great care.

Rimontgó is able to offer some extraordinary properties within a short drive – in the golfing rather than the motoring sense – on some of the best greens on the Costa Blanca – and beyond.

The Oliva Nova Golf Club presents a challenge to even the most seasoned player. Located just north of Denia and designed by that Spanish sporting great, Seve Ballesteros, this demanding course sports 18 holes, 15 of which feature water obstacles. The best score so far is 63 strokes, nine under par, recorded by Miguel Ángel Jiménez in 1999.

As befits the headquarters of the Peugeot circuit, La Sella Golf in Denia offers 6,289 metres of demanding golfing action. Designed in 1991 by José Maria Olazábal, nine more holes are currently under construction, meaning that visitors to La Sella will be able to enjoy more than one 18-hole course.

Further south, Alicante Golf Club offers an entirely different experience, with a modern 18-hole course only a putt away from the city’s famous San Juan beach. Seve Ballesteros has wielded his magic wand with particular skill here, creating a picturesque course with some pleasing twists, such as the ‘S’ shaped artificial lake on the ninth hole. Enjoy a brisk round early in the morning before the heat of the day arrives, then spend the afternoon on the beach.

Murcia also has plenty to offer, in the shape of El Valle Golf. Located within one of the popular Polaris World Resorts, this is now considered one of the area’s most exclusive addresses, with superior villas and apartments, along with an 18-hole, par 71, Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course. Building in the resort has been strictly limited, resulting in a great deal of interest in any properties that have been available for sale.
