The city of A Coruña is bursting with a wide range of popular, authentic, traditional and up and coming restaurants, and there is certainly no shortage of delicious eateries in town. But the one that tops all the polls consistently and never disappoints is the renowned Alborada, which has been awarded a much-coveted Michelin star for the fourth year running.

The seafront restaurant’s façade is modern and stylish, with a slick and sophisticated décor that continues inside, yet Alborada has managed to maintain all of the building’s original charm and character. The stone support beams have been left uncovered, exposing the aged and rustic bricks. These original high walls of whitewashed brickwork are juxtaposed with glossy and polished glass, behind which the extensive wine cellar is displayed as well as an über modern open-view kitchen, chrome fittings and modern lighting. This combination is perfectly balanced and reflects very much the eclectic style of the menu and the modern, yet authentic dining experience.

Alborada has a unique menu, or should I say ‘menus’, as there are three of them. Land, Sea and Classic. (Terra, Mar and Clasico). The seafood menu is particularly popular, given the location of A Coruña and the abundance of fresh seafood available, but the other two are equally highly rated and ought not be overlooked.

Everything is locally sourced, and each dish is made with the freshest ingredients in season, therefore, the list of options is continuously changing throughout the year in relation to the seasons and prime produce obtainable.

The dishes are carefully prepared and exquisitely presented, and whilst the sizes are fairly dainty each morsel is a taste of heaven. The phrase ‘quality rather than quantity’ certainly rings true at Alborada and the restaurant’s ethos is evident – delicious, natural and locally sourced produce – but just enough to enjoy and to truly appreciate each mouthful.

It is of little wonder that this restaurant has once again been recognised by the Michelin Guide as it continues to turn out unequalled excellence year after year. If there is one place you visit in A Coruña, for unquestionable quality, unparalleled flavour, a vast selection of wines and impeccable service, Alborada is it!
