If you are a shopaholic and happen to be in Jávea in the Costa Blanca on Wednesday August 8th, then there is good news, since the town’s trade association has organised another late night shopping evening. The last such event held in July, was such a massive success that shopkeepers reported a 50 per cent increase in sales, so naturally there was a great deal of interest in participating in August’s retail fiesta.
In order to make the whole occasion feel more festive, the streets will be buzzing with little extras, such as a display of classic and vintage motorbikes in the Placeta del Convent. The bars and restaurants in the area will be organising a tapas trail for hungry shoppers, who are invited to enjoy the variety of local stores, which will remain open until midnight.
For lovers of culture, live music will be provided by Bunpada Batukada, while Jávea’s celebrated Museo Soler Blasco will remain open until half past midnight.
During July and August the sun can be fearsome, so late night shopping will allow locals and visitors to make use of the coolest hours of the day to browse in comfort, and make subsequently pack the open-air terraces of restaurants and cafés for a snack in the refreshing evening air.
Apart from the 50 per cent increase in sales of fashion and accessories that resulted from the first late night shopping date, restaurants and bars recorded 35 per cent more customers and an additional knock-on effect meant that over the next few days the participating outlets recorded a further 20 per cent upturn in trade.
Economic Development Councillor, Juan Luis Cardona, has expressed his full support for this initiative and emphasised that it would help to encourage consumers into Jávea’s historic centre, while improving the local economy at a time when the town is at its busiest.
Businesses that have not yet signed up to be part of this initiative are being encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to boost footfall and turnover, not to mention create a lively summer evening atmosphere in Jávea’s pretty town centre.
