Founded in 1973, Porcelanosa is a brand that has grown from small beginnings in Villareal, on the outskirts of Castellon, to an internationally known luxury brand. The statistics are impressive: Porcelanosa employs 5,000 people in its factories, research centres and also in the over 400 branded stores across the world.
Spain’s economic growth and property boom certainly provided the initial thrust for a company that became famous for its high quality ceramic-based bathroom products and tiles, yet now Porcelanosa is an internationally recognised brand that also specialises in paving, designer kitchens and bathrooms, as well as modern construction and cladding materials. With a turnover of over a billion euros and a presence in all the main established and upcoming new markets, it is well positioned to continue its impressive growth.
The man behind this success story is Héctor Colonques, who founded the company with his brother Manuel, and business partner José Soriano, and built it into one of Spain’s leading commercial and industrial concerns. Not happy to sit on his laurels, he started developing new complimentary activities within the company, focusing heavily on technical research and innovation to emerge not only as a diversified manufacturer of design-driven luxury home fixtures and building materials, but also as an international leader in the development ofnew, innovative products with a strong focus on sustainability.
The company’s product range is a reflection of this, alternating between traditional and natural materials on the one hand, and technologically advanced materials and products on the other. These include everything from state-of-the-art kitchens and bathrooms to wooden decking and parquet floors actually made from ceramic tiles, but also include fine natural wood, spas and swimming pools withs ultramodern fittings, and advanced solutions for building systems.
It is this mix, above all, that has secured Porcelanosa a leading position on the world market, as marked out by the fact that today 85% of the firm’s revenue comes from overseas sales – making this another company from the Valencia Region that is leading the way in driving Spanish exports to all four corners of the globe.
