Between 28 June and 15 July, Valencia’s Palau de le Música will once again host the by Valencian fans most anticipated Jazz event of the year, the Seagram’s Gin Festival. This year, the festival has increased the number of concerts (elven in total), while reducing the ticket prices (which are between 10 and 24 euros), in order to attract even more citizens.
The Jazz festival will take off in the garden of the Palau de la Música with the performance of the Chuchito Valdés Quartet, which is led by the Cuban pianist, son of Chucho and grandchild of the great Bebo Valdés. Chuchito will showcase his latest work, La senda de los elefantes (The route of the elephants). Seagram’s Gin Festival will see five performances which are absolute premiers in Spain. Among those are Richard Bona and Cécil McLorin Salvant, last year’s nominee for the Grammy in the category Jazz vocal album.
Other major events on the calender include, without doubt, the performance by the New Yorker Stacey Kent and Freddy Cole’s homage to his brother, the iconic Nat King Cole, with songs from the album that earned him a Grammy nomination. The Valencians are represented by Sedajazz & Thais Morell and Naima, a new influential Group, formed by Manolo Valls, Enrique Ruiz, Luis Torregrosa and Óscar Cuchillo.
